Jefferson Grad Chris Mobley Lands West Carrollton Football Job; Star Football Player "Thrilled" About Opportunity

Jefferson Grad Chris Mobley Lands West Carrollton Football Job

Former Star Football Player "Thrilled" About Opportunity

By Deon Cash

Chris Mobley, former Cincinnati Hughes head coach, is now the new Head Coach of the West Carrollton Pirates.

Last season Mobley, a Jefferson graduate, had led Hughes to its first playoff appearance after a long stretch of losing. Hughes would start 6-0 on the season before injuries and covid would start to play a major impact on the season. Hughes would make the OHSAA playoffs, giving Hughes and the "Big Red" hope that they can turn around the program.

Mobley would apply for the West Carrollton job, like others, but once he got the call for a interview, the rest would be history. He would do well enough to merit another interview in front of the team and organization.

He impressed the program enough to get into the final 3 and sway the Pirates brass, and now the former D-1 linebacker and defensive back will get his wish: to coach at home.

"We are really excited for what Coach Mobley will be able to bring to our program." West Carrollton Athletic Director Evan Ivory stated.

Mobley will bring his energy, his undying love for the coaching game, his knowledge and his passion to a Pirates program that is looking to move upwards after former head coach Dion Black decided to step down and take the Flyght Academy coaching position.

Black had initially got the program going in the right direction, but lost a couple of players in between seasons, and didn't have the impact he was hoping to in the last couple of years before mutually agreeing to part ways.

With Mobley, the Pirates are looking for a fresh start, and with the great attendance at the first meeting, all signs point towards West Carrollton moving forward.

"It's only upward from here. To see all these faces in the first meeting? This is great. I believe we can get things going back in the right direction and help these student-athletes achieve what they want to achieve and make some noise in the Miami Valley League next season." Mobley stated.

Good luck to coach Mobley and his staff for the 2022-23 season.
