Pirates Sweep Earns Team of the Week Praise; 10U, 12U, and Junior High Teams Win Titles

Pirates Sweep Earns Team of the Week Praise; 10U, 12U, and Junior High Teams Win Titles; Teams to Be Featued in News and on Dayton 24-7 Sports Podcast

The West Carrollton YMCA hoop teams, led by coaches Dameon Monie, Jenny Moreland and Gene Spivey, did something no YMCA team has done in the youth basketball circuit.

They won the 10U, 12U, and the Junior High divisions all in one season, which is quite a feat.

And on top of that, the West Carrollton YMCA team won all 3 games in dramatic fashion as well.

The 10U team defeated YMCA South 38-36 as Issyl Tre Moreland, Evan Harner, Jordan Horton and Kylee Steinman led the team to the championship. Muhammad Safi hit the game winning shot.

The 12U team defeated Kleptz 30-29 in a game down to the wire. The top players were Javen Spivey, Devon Monie, Logan Harner and Arriyah Izeh.

Monie hit the game winner to seal the championship.

The Jr high team defeated the Kleptz Suns 35-32. The key players were Devon Monie, Chase Cook, Ali Safi, William Cooley, Kurron Phillips, and Devin Horton.

The full teams, coaches and parents will be honored at Week 4 of the Unsigned Hype Basketball Series that will air on TV in September.

I just want to thank the parents, the coaches, and the Y for giving my son and others a chance to do this. They deserve it. They work hard and are learning to play the right way.

It was a huge thrill for the entire organization who has been in the Y basketball program for a few years now. But this is easily the best success they have had in the youth basketball  program.

Monie has grabbed the reins and has shown he has the tools to be a solid coach for a staff or as a head coach somewhere in middle school.

The teams will be honored at Week 4 of the Unsigned Hype Basketball Series that will air on TV in September.  They will be honored today at the Salvation Army Kroc Center from 5:30-8.

"I just want to thank the kids, the parents, the coaches, and the Y for giving my son and others a chance to do this. They deserve it. They work hard and are learning to play the right way. It don't matter where you learn how to play.  Jus play the right way and play to win." Coach Monie stated.

Congratulations to the West Carrollton YMCA basketball program for a 1st ever achievement and stamping their name in the YMCA basketball history books. Watch out for this group in the future years as well.

They will be featured in the Dayton Weekly Newspaper and on the Dayton 24-7 Sports podcast as well.
