Troy Overcomes Sloppy 1st Half, Stays Undefeated Against Butler on Thursday Night Lights

Troy Overcomes Sloppy 1st Half, Stays Undefeated Against Butler on Thursday Night Lights

By Deon Cash

The Troy Trojans had their way the first two games of the football season, as the running game powered its way to two blowout wins in the process.

However the Butler Aviators came out and showed they wasn't the same pushovers they had been in previous seasons and played the Trojans with physical defense and intensity from the start.

While offensively Butler wasn't able to get much going, they were able to shut down the vaunted Troy offense that had been unstoppable in the previous two games, as RB Jahari Ward had run wild. Butler would walk into halftime in a scoreless game.

Troy, on the other hand, had to be a little disturbed that they had 2 touchdowns called back (due to penalties) and a missed field goal to boot at the end of the half.

In the second half it was a different story, as the Trojans would score on its first possession and wouldn't look back en route to a 16-7 win in front of a packed home crowd in week 3 of Thursday Night Lights.

Butler would score to make it 14-7, and would also have a chance to tie the game with the ball late in the game.

But Troy would get a sack in the end zone with less than 2 minutes left in the game, which would end Butler's comeback hopes.

Butler falls to 1-2 on the season, while Troy moves to 3-0 and stays in 1st place in the Miami Valley League.

Jahari Ward would run for 75 hard earned yards to lead the offense. While the "Aiden Connection" was gold, as Kirpatrick to Gorman resulted in a 44-yard TD pass helped lead Troy to a win.

Star LB Devon Stobel led the Trojans with 7 tackles, a sack, and 3 Tackles for loss.

Butler only managed 130 yards of total offense in the loss. Kaiden Bates ran a 10-yard TD to lead the offense while LB Sam Mitchell had 9 tackles, 3 Tackles for loss and a interception to lead the Butler defense.
